We began Every Shingle Heart as a way to give back to the Greater Jacksonville community that we call home. Our quest to find one deserving family garnered countless nominations and an outpouring of local support. It was humbling to see our community rally together to help others in need.
In the end, there were so many touching stories we couldn’t choose just one. So, we surprised our three finalists with the news that they would ALL be receiving brand new GAF roofs! Angela Billings, Toni Luther and Ruby McMullen were the recipients of new roofs in our inaugural Every Shingle Heart Initiative.
Angela Billings is a breast cancer survivor who underwent a double mastectomy. She lost her fiancé shortly after her surgery, and debt mounted as she tried to recover and grieve. Toni Luther is a veteran and the mother of a disabled veteran. When she suffered a stroke, it became impossible to make ends meet. Ruby McMullen has been barely getting by on disability, making the expense of a new roof unattainable.
When Hurricane Matthew walloped our area, these women all experienced severe roof damage. Already facing hardships, they were now dealing with leaks and the potential of damage, mold and mildew. Their unfortunate circumstances made getting a new roof completely out of reach. Fortunately they no longer have to worry about keeping their homes safe and dry!
The support we received we’ve received for Every Shingle Heart has been incredible. We want to thank everyone from the community who got involved. We would also like to thank GAF for donating the materials for these families. It has been a truly rewarding experience, and we’re excited to make this initiative bigger and bolder in 2018!
